Frequently Asked Questions

What age-group/year level do you cater towards? Is there a minimum age?

We do not accept/reject/classify students based on age-group, but on ability. As our teaching emphasises accelerated learning-- to tackle what is above one's year level-- we warmly welcome younger students who exhibit serious academic motivation and potential. For example, a year 6 student may just end up learning and acing the A-level curriculum. However, in most cases, because our curricula pertain mostly towards examination excellence, accepted students either already attend or will soon begin high school (year 8 - year 13).

What curricula do you cover?

We offer curricula tutoring in general writing, English language, English literature, ESOL, history and economics for or leading up to A-level, IB, and NCEA qualifications. Students who are not yet taking one of these qualifications are expected to eventually do so and are enrolled in the Olympiad Writing Junior School Pre-Q curriculum. For more information about our curricula, visit our teaching page here.

How does teaching work?

Olympiad Writing prides itself on nurturing the best of the best students, in both results and character. To do this, we take a highly individualist and bespoke approach to teaching since every student has different needs and a unique way of learning. Therefore, no two students would receive an identical education. Generally, students' learning package revolves around a university-like system of tutorials, lectures, workshops, 1-to-1 assistance, homework support and practice sessions.

What is the cost of tuition?

We have our full menu pricing transparently published on our teaching page here. However, please note that no two students' situation are the same. Some students may want to enrol in two tutorials per week, or also seek 1 to 1 support on top of a tutorial. The only way to get a categorical answer is to contact us.

Why can't I just pay and begin classes right away?

We realise our admissions process is slow and somewhat inefficient compared to other schools, but we believe hasty learning is dangerous and to be discouraged. It is us adults' fault when students cannot unlock their true potential because of misguided or rushed help. Every to-be-successful student deserves uncompromising attention. And, therefore, as an institution with a promise to deliver the absolute best writing education, there will absolutely be no compromise on this long but much-needed process.

How often are your events? How do I enrol?

We aim for our events to take place every school holiday. They are unique in location and theme, but will always share three pillars in common: academic intensity, leadership development and fun! All events have limited spaces, so we encourage that you register your interest early by contacting us here. As in the spirit of Olympiad Writing, interviews are always held. Preference will be given to current Olympiad Writing students.
