Inside Oyster Writing's Case Classroom, students analyse and discuss hundreds of cases to see where writing has worked, hasn't worked, or could have worked better.
Description: A class for year 9 - 10 students who are already studying English Literature as an examined subject at school, but are not taking their CIE, IB, 8or NCEA qualifications. We rotate between theory and practice as students develop the taste for English literature writing while improving their essay writing fundamentals.
Content: literature analysis, essay structure, exam strategy, writing stylistics, essay case review, writing workshops.
Description: A technical, application-heavy class best suited for year 11-12 students preparing to take their IGCSE/AS/IB English Literature exams. Under Luca’s ‘Case Method’, students rotate between discussing successful essay exemplars (case review) and writing their own (case workshop).

Description: A technical, application-heavy class dedicated to year 12 students preparing to take their AS or NCEA Level 2 exams. Under Luca’s ‘Case Method’, students rotate between discussing successful A-level/NCEA essay exemplars (case review) and writing their own (case workshop). Emphasis will be placed on the A-level/NCEA requirements/grading scheme for open/passage/unseen questions.

Under Luca’s ‘Case Method’, students rotate between discussing successful IB essay exemplars (case review) and writing their own (case workshop). Emphasis will be placed on IB paper 1 & paper 2 requirements.

Description: A technical, application-heavy class dedicated to year 13 students preparing to take their A2/NCEA level 3 or scholarship exams. Under Luca’s ‘Case Method’, students rotate between discussing successful A-level/NCEA essay exemplars (case review) and writing their own (case workshop).

Description: A technical, application-heavy class dedicated to year 13 students preparing to take their IB English Language/Literature SL or HL exams. Under Luca’s ‘Case Method’, students rotate between discussing successful IB essay exemplars (case review) and writing their own (case workshop). Emphasis will be placed on IB paper 1 & paper 2 requirements.

Description: Developed by Luca and his colleagues at Harvard, ELITG is an intense 10 week crash course covering all the prerequisite English Literature theory of ELIT1 but in a compressed time frame. In most cases, students who are year 11+ must firstly take ELITG before being assigned to a more practice-oriented class: ELIT 2, 3, 4. If under year 11, the student should take ELIT1.
Content: Case review, case workshop, exam strategy.
Description: A weekly workshop where students write together with Luca and explore various strands of creative writing. This workshop is suitable for students who want to write as a stand-out extracurricular means to gain admission into top US universities, as well as for students who would like to experiment with the infinite permutations of creative writing. Classes are kept informal, but Luca is a strict and technical mentor.
